The New York
Immersive Challenge

A Weekend to Create a New Immersive Experience

Hosted by Epic Immersive & Wildrence

August 9th (6pm-11pm), 10th (10am-10pm), and 11th, 2019 (10am -11pm)

Three Days.

International Artists.

A New Immersive Experience.

This August 9th-11th, gather with international artists in New York for an immersive theatrical "hackathon", a 48-hour sprint to create a new immersive experience. Participants will show off their individual talents, then work together to create new scenes and experiences, with guest artists from San Francisco's Epic Immersive and New York' Wildrence leading the process. On Sunday evening, the new work will be presented to the public.

Artists will get to spend the weekend working at the incredible Wildrence space. An custom-built immersive environment, Wildrence was featured at the 2019 Immersive Design Summit as a leading new complex for incubating new immersive work. Designed for experiential innovation by architects Yvonne Chang and Jae Lee, Wildrence has hosted marquee immersive experiences like the immersive magic show Six Impossible Things, the post-apocalyptic thriller Bunker, and a mysterious, family-friendly promenade Elgin Park.

The weekend will be led by Wildrence and Epic Immersive, who will be leading guests through their process for rapidly creating highly-collaborated, large-scale devised immersive work. Part intensive workshop and part open-ended hackathon, The New York Immersive Challenge will take guests through the process of creating a full, epic immersive experience in just three days, while creating the space for highly individual explorations and creations that forge a true new ensemble experience which showcases each of its participants' unique genius and talents.

The New York Immersive Challenge costs $250 for a full weekend of immersive workshops and creation at Wildrence. Any artists with an interest in immersive work are welcome, from actors to directors to designers to singers and dancers. Guests will be welcome and enthusiastically embraced whether they are brand new to immersive theatre or absolute experts!

The Team

About Wildrence

For the storytellers of the world, Wildrence is the premier experiential space and consulting design studio that gives both creators and audiences one of a kind, end-to-end experiences. Designing with layers of adventure, storytelling, and sensory engagement, we seek to build an inspiring world.

Yvonne Chang and Jae Lee studied Architecture at Cornell before moving to NYC. After working a few years at different architecture firms, their passion to make small scale accessible design drove them to take the leap into entrepreneurship. Since then, they have been developing various projects that showcase their abilities in transforming how one experiences interactive design. Wildrence was founded not only to create, but inspire people who are willing to step out of their comfort zone.

Wildrence is home to a variety of immersive experiences, from incredible magic shows to intimate storytelling promenades.

About Epic Immersive

Epic Immersive designs large-scale live immersive theatre and mixed reality experiences where story, spectacle, and interaction deliver transcendent, awe-inspiring journeys.

Epic Immersive builds inspiring fictional worlds, from the 14-acre, 100-actor fictional town of Matthew Briar and the Age of Resurrection to the underworld playground of The Infernal Motel, which sold out its entire six-month run.

Epic's live experiences have been commissioned by Silicon Valley companies like Apple, Google, and Facebook. Epic was also the lead producer for The Immersive Design Summit, a first-of-its-kind gathering of the immersive universe featuring luminaries from Disney, Lucasfilm, ILMxLab, Punchdrunk, The Void, Meow Wolf, Two Bit Circus, and more.

The 2018 Paris Immersive Challenge

In November 2018, Epic Immersive and Paris' Madame Lupin teamed up to host and led an immersive hackathon in Paris, which we called the Paris Immersive Creation Challenge.

40 immersive artists came from all over the world, including Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, London, and Los Angeles.

Together, the teams created an immersive experience based on the Brothers Grimm, from start to finish, in less than 48 hours, which we then presented to the public.

Our venue partner was the beautiful Le Secret, a warehouse complex that hosted the immersive experience Helsingor and a series of French immersive events.

The event was a true community experience, bringing together an international crowd of acclaimed artists to work together, play together, and spend the days around the Challenge getting to know each other and seeing experiences together.

This summer, we'll build on that experience, with a full structured weekend of workshops and a codified process for supporting a large, brand-new team in creating highly-personal, highly-professional immersive work under a tight timeline.

We look forward to creating with you!
